LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT ASSOCIATE

Farm Design LLC is a landscape design firm based in East Hampton, NY. Our work celebrates native and natural systems while also retaining a focus on design excellence. We are looking for team members who share our interest in creating evocative native and sustainable landscapes and who are articulate, passionate, and willing to invest to learn their craft. It is our belief that working on all aspects of building a landscape provides valuable insight and will help deepen design skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting Project Manager with all phases and all aspects of design work, beginning with schematic design presentations through construction documents and beyond.
  • Prepare graphics for site analysis, schematic design ideas, 2-d and 3-d digital models, design development studies, and construction documents.
  • Assist with site work, which includes meeting contractors, discussing design goals with clients, documenting existing landscape features, assessing the health and viability of both existing and new landscapes, preparing meeting notes and more.
  • Prepare RFP, request for pricing, documents using excel, analyze and compare bids, follow up with contractors and more.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Auto Cad, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and Sketch Up.
  • Excellent graphic skills and aesthetics.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Responsible, self motivated and detail oriented.
  • Professional friendly demeanor, as well as excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge and or willing to learn landscape installation and maintenance requirements.
  • Experience with plants and planting, or demonstrated interest in ecology and ecological processes.
  • Familiarity of local building materials and their construction.
  • Must have your own car transportation, mileage is reimbursed.

PROJECT MANAGERLANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead multiple landscape architecture projects from schematic design through construction observation.
  • Responsible for the production, organization, coordination and accuracy of both presentation and construction documents.
  • Manage project schedule and workflow.
  • Communicate with and coordinate the efforts of project team members, clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Research and specify materials for construction.
  • Take an active role during construction observation, attend job site meetings, clarify and confirm design intent, review submittals and shop drawings.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or MS in Landscape Architecture or Architecture.
  • 3-5 years experience working as a landscape designer or architect. Preferred candidates will have project management experience.
  • Computer Skills: Competent in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp or other 3D software (We are a Mac based office).
  • Experience with all aspects of Design Services from Schematic Design through Construction Observation.
  • Knowledge and Experience preparing RFPs and Budgets.
  • A strong familiarity and understanding of Construction Practices, Building Methods, Sequences, and Codes. Experience preparing construction documents and specifications.
  • Ability to coordinate Multiple Projects and Deadlines.
  • Responsible, hard-working, self-motivated, and detail oriented.
  • Professional friendly demeanor, as well as excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Shared Design aesthetic with strong graphic skills.
  • Personal transportation required. Mileage reimbursed.

HORTICULTURALIST – LANDSCAPE CURATOR

Farm Design LLC is a landscape design firm based in East Hampton, NY. Our work celebrates native and natural systems but also retains a focus on design excellence. It is our view that landscapes are meant to evolve and change over time. We are looking for a team member who is knowledgeable of both natural ecology and design to curate our ongoing landscape projects. Anyone who works the land, understands the essential collaborative nature of our profession. This job is a multi-layered endeavor and will require a person to wear many “hats.” Roles include but are not limited to, client advocate, horticulturalist, designer, educator, project manager, and naturalist.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Landscape curator–Responsible for the long term evolution and growth of individual landscapes.
  • Co-ordinate and oversee landscape installation work. This could include gardens, meadows, and tree plantings and more.
  • Monitor landscape maintenance on multiple projects and troubleshoot if needed. We do not provide physical landscape services. We consult with contractors and provide periodic oversight when needed.
  • Specify spring annual and vegetable planting lists, and fall bulb planting lists. Source and order specialty plants as needed.
  • Assist/advise staff Landscape Architects with the plant side of the business, source plants, calculate plant quantities, review and compare bids.
  • Promote organic and non-toxic landscape maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge and experience establishing native plant meadows a plus.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and track budgets.
  • Gardening or other landscape experience in the field.
  • Resourceful–willing to ask questions and research to find solutions.
  • Comfort and experience with Microsoft excel, Microsoft word, and computer work in general.
  • Knowledge of the native plants and landscapes, “natural” planting styles, and non-toxic practices.
  • Shared design aesthetic with some graphic skills. Experience putting together small presentations helpful.
  • Personal transportation required. Mileage reimbursed.
